Legendary Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue editor Diana Vreeland’s wardrobe is up for grabs! A friend of the late “High Priestess of Fashion” donated the fashion treasure trove to Kerry Taylor Auctions. It’s only fitting that the woman who launched the careers of Oscar de la Renta, Diane von Furstenberg and Manolo Blahnik would be bestowed such an honor.
A Yves Saint Laurent navy wool coat that still has her red Legion d’Honneur ribbon pinned on will be one of the many lots listed. Other items up for the June 24 auction include the film director’s chair that she used with working as the Met’s Costume Institute’s special consultant—where she notably sprayed perfume through the exhibits—and an ivory art-deco cigarette holder (made famous by Cecil Beaton’s portrait of her).
Vreeland used to stamp her iconic monogram D.V. in red in every one of her issues at Vogue, perhaps those will be among the pieces auctioned off? We’d love to get our hands on that piece of fashion history!
